Pedestals, Idols, and Demons
The illusion of specialness.
We all have gifts and talents. And because we’re all gifted, we’re all special.
Because we’re all special, we’re all the same. No one is special. Our uniqueness unites us, dissolving our differences.
United in eclection.
Identifying ourselves as special, dwelling in our specialness; creates the illusion of separation. In believing that we are more, have more, can do more than others we create separation between us and them.
While some suffer from this affliction, the idea of being bigger and above others, the biggest illusion we create is the specialness of others. We put people on pedestals and of them, we create idols. Believing that their gifts, talents, accomplishments, physical appearance; makes them special, makes them different. As such we make ourselves out to be inferior.
We extend the space between us, further anchoring ourselves in the notion of separation, and creating more isolation.
Making someone special can be out admiration, just as much as much as it can be of hatred. We can create idols, or we can create demons. Both are equally destructive. While demonizing others we create the illusion of terrorism in others. Specialness and differences that we believe threaten our very existence. We’ve seen this play out over and over again through most of the major religions of our time.
Idolization is equally destructive. As we build up others, we knock ourselves down. Spiraling down the rabbit hole of insecurities, self doubt, and self loathing. It is the desecration of our very soul. Pedestals become pillars, and we place those near to us so high they become out of reach. We violate our basic need for communion and strengthen our ego’s resolution to keep us separate from one another.
Opportunities are forged to create more fear and division.
