Momentum, Alignment, and Resistance

October 4, 2018 by David James Di Pardo 2 Comments

Momentum Alignment and ResistanceWe’ve all had those moments in our lives where events or projects unfold at remarkable speeds, in timeframes that almost seem unrealistic.

Chance encounters, turn into dates and flourish into meaningful relationships. Creative sparks ignite into magic. Unplanned interviews turn into dream jobs and fulfilling careers.

I like to think that this is more than just chance. When we are aligned, whether that be spiritual alignment, or aligned to our purpose and values, our path is cleared. Blocks and obstacles are removed and our lives take on a momentum of their own. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be bumps along the way, but the ease in which they are resolved is significantly different. When we are faced with obstacle upon obstacle, and the path before us seems blocked at every turn, I have to ask. Are we trying to propel ourselves down a path we aren’t meant to follow? Or perhaps are we trying to force a timeline that isn’t yet meant to pass.

Often the obstacles are detours in the right direction, bringing us down an alternative path that we otherwise wouldn’t have considered. Other times they are meant to slow us down or stop us in our tracks to avoid taking a road we aren’t meant to travel. And so the same can be said for the absence of those obstacles.

When we see the path before us is clear and that we are able to travel it with great speed, it is because we are being guided towards a destination that is in alignment with our highest truth.

When our speed is being driven by our values, when our momentum is aligned with our purpose we are in the flow of the something greater. Click To Tweet

There is a difference to be noted between speed/momentum, and simply rushing. When our speed is being driven by our values, when our momentum is aligned with our purpose we are in the flow of the something greater. We can call it the Universe, or God, but there is a divine presence that is working on our behalf outside the logical parameters of time and space.

To the outside world, this may be perceived as obsessive, or crazy, or rushing. Which in most cases is a mirror of our internal resistance and fear.

But to those who may be on this path, finding themselves being propelled forward at an unsettling speed, I ask you this. How do you feel? Are you filled with joy and excitement, is there an inner peace lying below the surface of the anticipation and adrenaline? Our emotions are our internal compass and the easiest measure of alignment. Our True North.

Does that mean you won’t face resistance? Of course not.

I can’t think of a single thing we will face that doesn’t in one way or another involve innovation, creativity or change. And as said by Dr. Brené Brown, vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change. There is nothing we will try to accomplish or bring into this world that does not involve at least one of these three. Our resistance is not presenting itself in the face of our momentum or speed, it’s presenting itself in the face of our vulnerability. We often let our resistance and fear convince us that we are traveling down the wrong path, and self-sabotage, but the truth is there is nothing more beautiful than the magic that is born of our willingness to be vulnerable.

I experienced this recently during the creation of our podcast. Where the entire project took on a speed and momentum we hadn’t anticipated. From inception through to launch the process took about 5 weeks including all the content creation and development. What was unsettling was never the speed or momentum at which we were traveling, and I never felt depleted in an unhealthy way. In fact, we were further fueled by this work which had a ripple effect on other projects and endeavors. What had the potential to derail us, more than once, was the immense discomfort of our vulnerability. The fear of how our work would be perceived.

And so this morning I was reminded of a quote from Mastin Kipp:

Unless you are in mortal danger, fear is a compass showing you where to go.

So as you find yourself caught up in this beautiful momentum, I ask you, do you feel aligned in your purpose? In your values?

And what is your fear really showing you? Is it perhaps pointing you in the direction of your healing or your greatest desires?
